When it comes to manufacturing of rectangular expansion joints as welded corner configuration, it was easy to conclude that old fashion way of rectangular bellows production is incorporating stress concentrators at the most loaded and critical areas of the bellows. Therefore, the main focus was to eliminate this negative influence. The result of our work is a unique rectangular bellows manufacturing method, that allows us to utilize rounded corners bellows free from welds at the most overstressed areas. This means, that compared to welded corners bellows, in our products we are eliminating the negative impact of the most critical stress concentrators.
It is common knowledge that stress concentration is mainly related to:
• geometrical discontinuities
• material microstructure imperfections
Below table indicates the calculated fatigue differences between the rectangular welded corners bellows and CUBE multilayer rounded corner bellows.
